CONSULTING SERVICES
Expert support for specific projects
My deep knowledge of art-world operations will support you to create award-winning proposals and applications. Here’s a small sample of my experience you can employ to your benefit:
• I’ve completed my own successful applications for regional, national, and international residencies, awards, and fellowships.
• My clients have won Guggenheim Fellowships, United States Artists Awards, and other honors.
• Each spring and fall, I assist one of the largest funders in the US with their grant-approval process for arts nonprofits.
• I’ve served as a juror for organizations such as Fulbright, Headlands Center for the Arts, and the Oregon Arts Commission.
• I’ve been an art critic since 2007, publishing exhibition reviews and essays in magazines like Artforum, Frieze, and Art in America; I hold a Professional Certificate in Editing from UC Berkeley; and for five years, I was the Editor in Chief of the international art blog Daily Serving.
If you’d love to have expert guidance on your next submission, I offer an initial consultation for $400. This includes:
- up to 90 minutes of thorough pre-meeting prep (you will send me your in-progress or completed documents to review, plus links to your website/portfolio and the application guidelines, etc.);
- a 75-minute Zoom consultation in which you can ask specific questions and I will offer point-by-point suggestions for strengthening your proposal;
- a detailed follow-up email that contains additional answers, edits, links, etc. Further meetings, if needed, are scheduled on an individual basis.

Bean’s organization and structure kept me on task, and I gained confidence from her guidance and feedback.
She was an invaluable participant in the process, and input that she offered was critical to the final plan I submitted. There is no doubt in my mind that I would not have been able to take on the challenge of preparing my application without her support. -A.S., Guggenheim Fellow
